A Message from the Director
The South Carolina Department of Public Safety recognizes the tremendous toll that losing a loved one in a motor vehicle collision can take on a family. Sadly, around 1,000 people lose their lives in motor vehicle collisions each year including beloved parents, spouses, children, grandparents, and siblings. You too have suffered a tremendous loss, and please know that our hearts go out to you during this painful time. With each death on our highways, we work even harder toward our mission to prevent highway fatalities through safety education and outreach efforts; proactive enforcement aimed at reducing highway deaths; and through partnerships with our communities to educate our citizens about safe driving. Our thoughts are with each family experiencing this tragic loss. We hope this site will provide you with resources that will help you as you navigate this challenging journey.
